Faire le plein - to fill up

The expression faire le plein means "to fill up" in French.

It can be used when talking about filling up your gas tank, for example. Let's say you're heading out into the French countryside with some friends, and one of them doesn't think you have enough gas for the entire trip.

Nous n'avons pas assez d'essence. Il faut faire le plein.
We don't have enough gas. We need to fill up.

At the gas station, if an attendant is assisting you, you can say:

Le plein, s'il vous plaît !
Fill it up, please!
