The verb faire has many uses in French. It can be loosely translated as meaning "to do" or "to make", but it is also used in other contexts, such as:
- stating the weather
- playing sports
- stating a duration of time that has lapsed
Let's first look at how faire is conjugated. Faire is an irregular verb which falls into the Third Group of French Verbs. All verbs in this group are irregular.

As described above, faire is used in many different contexts in the French language.
Il fait beau.
It's nice out.
Il fait froid.
It's cold out.
Tu fais du sport ?
Do you play sports?
Elle fait du tennis.
She plays tennis.
Ça fait un an qu'il est parti.
It's been a year since he left.
Ça fait 20 minutes que nous attendons le bus.
We've been waiting for the bus for 20 minutes.
Je fais un gâteau.
I'm making a cake.
Il fait ses devoirs de math.
He's doing his math homework.
